Here's the funny thing - I didn't know I was overweight.

No one ever said "dude" you might want to lose a pound or two.

The Wake-Up Call: Or, How Instagram Got Me Off the Couch (and You Can Too!)

How a Reality Check Saved My Health

The Starting Point
In 2022, I weighed 258 pounds, had high blood pressure, and had just received a prediabetes diagnosis.

The Turning Point
A local pharmacist helped me see prediabetes differently: not as a permanent sentence, but as an invitation to make meaningful changes.

The 90-Day Challenge
I asked my doctor for three months to improve my health without adding new medication. During that time, I reduced my food intake and began walking around the neighborhood, with Cecelia joining me as part of the routine.

The Initial Result
After 90 days, I had lost 13 pounds, my A1C returned to a normal range, and I did not need any new prescriptions.

The Daily Routine Today
By 2026, I am down to 215 pounds. I work out five days a week, including at least a two-mile walk at 3.4 mph tracked with MapMyWalk. I also use MyFitnessPal to stay consistent with a daily calorie target of 1,800.

Room to Keep Improving
Could I lose more weight? Yes, I believe I can, especially since my BMI is still in the obese range. In college, I weighed 190 pounds, but I am not trying to reach that far back. My goal now is steady progress that supports my health and quality of life.

Why It Matters
Staying active is not about appearance. It is about protecting independence, mobility, and confidence for the long haul.

Looking Ahead
My wife and I have committed to traveling as much as we can. Now that I am retired and 71, I understand that the years ahead are precious. What matters most to me is maintaining my quality of life—today and in the future.

Closing Reflection
This journey has taught me that meaningful change does not have to happen all at once. Small choices, repeated consistently, can add up to a healthier and more hopeful life. I am grateful for the progress I have made, and I am committed to continuing one day, one walk, and one decision at a time, just like an Everyday Experience.
